Using TeemWork locally with 'MSDE2000A'
The Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE2000A) is free and is fully compatible with SQL Server 2000. Click here for information from Microsoft about MSDE2000A.
TeemWork is designed to run with either MSDE2000A or Microsoft's SQL Server 2000.
You can install Microsoft's free MSDE2000A and use it with TeemWork on your computer for free in single-user mode for as long as you wish. You will be able to activate TeemWork's multi-user mode to allow multiple computers to share your TeemWork database whenever you want.
Follow the step by step plan below to install TeemWork and use it locally for free on your computer with your own MSDE2000A database.
Step 1 - Install TeemWork on your computer if you have not already done so.
Find out how to install TeemWork here. Once you have installed TeemWork on your computer, LOGIN to our TeemWork.Net server (using Team Name = DEMOE, UserID = READONLY, Password = SECRET) to verify that your installation was successful.
Step 2 - Upgrade to TeemWork 2.3 if you are using an earlier version of TeemWork
Support of Microsoft's MSDE2000A required programming changes in TeemWork. To use MSDE2000A, you must upgrade to TeemWork 2.3 if you are using an earlier version of TeemWork. Find out how to upgrade here. The upgrade is free.
Step 3 - Download an 'empty' TeemWork database.
You need to install an 'empty' TeemWork database on your computer before you can start to use TeemWork locally on your computer.
The 'empty' TeemWork database that we provide is not totally empty, it contains some sample data. Click on one of the download links below to install it. When the download starts, select 'Run' or 'Open' rather than 'Save'.
Primary download site: 'Install an Empty TeemWork Database'
Secondary download site: 'Install an Empty TeemWork Database'
Step 4 - Download Microsoft's free MSDE2000A.
Click here to download MSDE2000A from Microsoft's own Web site. When the download starts, select 'SAVE' and then save the file in directory 'C:\TeemWork' on your computer. This is a large compressed file named 'MSDE2000A.exe'.
Step 5 - Uncompress the compressed MSDE2000A.exe file.
Once Step 4 is done, the MSDE2000A setup files need to be uncompressed.
Using your Windows Explorer, got to directory 'C:\TeemWork' and open or double-click on file 'MSDE2000A.exe'. Accept all default values. This will uncompress the MSDE installation files into a new directory called 'C:\MSDERelA'.
Step 6 - Install Microsoft's MSDE2000A.
Installation of MSDE2000A requires the execution of a command line that includes a complex set of parameters. Click here if you really want to find out more about this.
We have done all the reading and we have saved the required command line in a file named 'C:\TeemWork\SetupMSDE2000A.bat'.
Using your Windows Explorer, got to directory 'C:\TeemWork' and open or double-click 'SetupMSDE2000A.bat'. This will install MSDE2000A on your computer.
Do not expect a message confirming that MSDE2000A installation is complete because Microsoft did not find it wise to include one, however, you will get an error message if installation fails for any reason.
Step 7 - LOGIN locally to TeemWork for the first time.
You are now ready to LOGIN locally for the first time. You will be able to use TeemWork for FREE with your own database on your computer.
During the first local LOGIN, TeemWork will start MSDE2000A and will configure your 'empty' TeemWorkDB database. This is why the first LOGIN is a little longer to do that subsequent LOGINs.
When you LOGIN, use the drop down list box to select your own computer in the 'Server Name' area. TeemWork will then configure itself automatically to use the TeemWorkDB database that is located on your computer.
The 'empty' TeemWork database that comes with TeemWork MSDE is not completely empty. It contains sample data for a team called 'DEMOE'. The Administrator of team DEMOE is Katherine Harris.
Make sure that you are using TeemWork 2.3.
To LOGIN as Katherine Harris use Team Name: DEMOE, User ID: KATH, Password: SECRET. This will only work when you are using TeemWork in local mode.
When the TeemWork.Net server is used, try User ID: READONLY, Password: SECRET.
Note: When TeemWork is used in MSDE mode, additional functions become available on the 'System' tab of the 'Manage Users' window.
We think that you will find that it is well worth the effort to install TeemWork MSDE. There are no ads with TeemWork and you don't even have to register.
We do this because we hope that eventually you will want to order and activate TeemWork's multi-user mode.
We thank you for using TeemWork.
