What is 'VPN Security'.

We know that you want to be assured that your data can only be accessed by authorized users. This is why TeemWork includes two levels of security.

Standard Security.

The first level of security is applied when one does a LOGIN. It involves the use of 'User Codes' and 'Passwords'.

At LOGIN time, TeemWork assures that the 'User Code' is valid for the 'Team Name' that was supplied.  It also checks that the 'Password'  is correct for that 'User Code' - 'Teem Name' combination.

As you may know, this type of security is widely used and works well when users insure that their passwords are kept secret. Many are satisfied with this level of security.

Obviously, it follows that some want even more security.

Some can afford it. Many large corporations already have spent or will invest substantial amounts of time and money to build 'Virtual Private Networks'.  Every TeemWork version includes VPN security to ensure a high degree of precaution.

Virtual Private Networks.

We all know that millions of people use millions of computers to access the Internet.

When a 'Virtual Private Network' is built, it means that some enterprise applied efforts and resources to assure that only a few 'selected' computers (among the millions of available machines) are allowed to access its computerized business systems and data.

Or, in other words, when you have a Virtual Private Network (VPN), only 'authorized' machines can try to LOGIN to your business systems.

A standard feature of TeemWork is 'VPN Security'.

What is 'VPN Security'?

When the TeemWork program is started, it examines the components that where used to build your machine. It uses this information to compute a 'Machine ID'  that uniquely identifies your computer.

With TeemWork, it is as if your machine had a unique serial number.

A Team Administrator may specify that a given user may only use specific 'authorized' machines to join the team.

When 'VPN Security' is used, a user must correctly enter his 'Team Name', 'User Code' and 'Password' AND the user must be using a machine that has been authorized for his use.

Here is an example of how 'VPN Security'  can be specified for a user.

How to specify 'VPN Security'?

Let's look at the case of Richard Lawrence, a TeemWork user. Richard has 2 computers, one at home and one in the office.  The Administrator allows him access TeemWork from these machines only.

To specify this, the Team Administrator opened the 'Manage User' window.

The top half on the window is a list of users.  Richard's row is clicked.

The 'VPN Security' tab for Richard is displayed below:

Two options are offered. The user may join the team:

In the case of Richard Lawrence, you can see that he must use 'authorized' machines to join the team. You can also see that only two machines are 'authorized' for his use.

The 'Clear' button appears on the right side of the Window computer name field.  The administrator can use the 'Clear' button to reset the allowable computers.  This can be useful if a user stops using one particular computer.

For those who want to know more.

The field that is displayed to the left of the 'VPN ID' field displays the date and time of the last LOGIN attempt for the specified computer. If an un-authorized LOGIN is attempted, this field can be used to establish what machine was used to try to LOGIN and when this LOGIN attempt occurred.
